Annoying comment from StevetotheH. Chrono allows files to be renamed automatically using the pre-determined fields. However, … show morethere is no list of fields. No duh, you can rename as file as "save as". That's not what we're asking
Look in Chrono Download settings in Help > Naming Masks - for information on how to … show moreset many automatic *variables*, even can set subdirectories, obviously you can also set static text - either in the rules section, or in the general for all.
These don't answer the question. When you right-click on a single file and use chrono>save image … show moreas, you can edit Task Properties to change the naming mask for that file/download.
However, if you use the Chrono Sniffer (from the bar button) for the whole page, there are two tabs at the bottom, one titled Quick Selection and the other Task Properties. Quick Selection works and allows you to select files to download, but when clicking on Task Properties, the box for Naming Mask is grayed out! I can't place the cursor in that box to create a naming mask for the downloads. This makes the batch download function useless. I'm not going to batch download a 100 files and then go back and individually rename them all.
To clarify, yes I know (and have set) a universal default naming system as <filename>.<filetype>, but I need to be able to add a name for each different batch/time I download files. When I do one at a time, Task Properties appear and you can edit the Naming Mask to be BobSmith-<filename>.<filetype>, but when using ChonoSniffer to download a batch/the whole page, this function is grayed out?!?
Nevermind. I figured it out. You have to click/highlight each file to make Naming Mask functional. … show moreThis seems silly, I've already "checked" on each file I want to download, but now under Task Properties, I have to click on and highlight each file to use naming mask. Why?
What's more, there is no select all for this (unlike the check all box). You have to go through and shift click or arrow to highlight all the files (page up doesn't even work).
What's really to the point is there are no instructions manual for the extension that explains this. I read through the whole FAQ and this was not mentioned. It's not intuitive, if I've already "checked" the files to download, I also have to click/highlight to use naming mask for them.
It might be too late to try to answer this but I had a similar problem … show morewhere the Save As box kept popping when I downloaded multiple images, this is what I did: I added a new folder to the picture location and made that my download location in Chrome ex: C:UsersDelaceyPicturesNew folder (2)
I was then able to highlight all the files and download them in a batch.
That caused the downloads to name itself: image, image(1), image(2)...image(375), etc. You can always specify a name later but just to get rid of that annoying Save As box, I'll settle for image(...) any day. Hope I helped.
UPDATE: It appears as if when you add a folder for the images to download into, … show moreit will rename them: image, image(1), etc BUT up to 100: image(100) and then it will bring up the Save As box. So you will have to create a new folder again for a new batch of 100 to go into. In other words if you have 300 images to download, you will have to add three(3) New Folders.
The names will automatically be image, image(1) etc. all over again for each folder so therefore when you combine them into one(1) folder there will be a name conflict but you should be given an option to keep both and do the same for each conflict box to check and it will resolve the name conflict for you while keeping both images.
It might be a way to increase the amount of file names from 1-100 to 1-1000 or even more in the registry or somewhere to eliminate that problem but that's above my pay grade.
Still hope I helped.
There are 2 ways u can auto name files (at least i have found) both including … show moreRules.
-Go to "Rule System" ->
Create a new rule ->
type any display name u want ->
~Way 1 Start~
on "internal name" type 'r_downloading_' and what type of things u want to download (for example r_downloading_video) ->
copy-paste the condition from the default r_downloading
~Way 1 End~
-> on naming mask, always have .*ext* at the end.
As for the actually name, check naming masks on the help tab.
For example u can type *page_title*.*ext* on the naming mask, which will give the title of the webpage where u downloaded the thing (if u are reading this, the title of this page is "FAQ - Chrono Download Manager - How do i name files before they are downloading?"
~Way 2 Start~
instead of r_downloading_video, type only r_downloading -> copy-paste the condition from the default r_downloading AND add &&*ext*.is([ext_video]) afterwards
(it should look like this
*state*!=[finished]&&*state*!=[interrupted]&&*ext*.is([ext_video])
~Way 2 End~
P.S u can also add pure text to naming mask, like, asdfsf.*ext* .
Now in case i am stupid and dint read ur question right, cose u say BEFORE they are downloading.... idk why u want to rename something if u are not going to download it
